Start by Normalizing the Quotation Basis

Before reviewing exclusions, confirm that every supplier is pricing the same core project information.

Material Price Is Not the Same as Fabricated Project Price

A supplier may quote Natural Quartzite as:

• raw slabs;
• slabs plus basic cutting;
• cut-to-size pieces;
• fully fabricated countertops;
• fabricated and packed project components; or
• a broader package including shipping.

These scopes should not be compared as if they were identical.

1. Are Sink and Cooktop Cutouts Included?

Cutouts are one of the most common quotation omissions.

A project may contain:

• undermount sink openings;
• drop-in sink openings;
• cooktop openings;
• faucet holes;
• soap-dispenser holes;
• outlet openings;
• drain holes;
• drainer grooves; or
• other CNC-shaped openings.

Do not assume that “countertop fabrication” automatically includes all of them.

The quotation should state whether each opening is:

• included;
• excluded;
• priced separately;
• provisional; or
• subject to final sink or appliance templates.

Why Cutouts Can Change More Than the Fabrication Cost

Cutouts do not only add CNC or fabrication work. They can also affect slab layout and usable yield.

A large sink or cooktop opening may:

• remove an important visual section of the slab;
• create narrow stone bridges;
• limit where a seam can be placed;
• change reinforcement review;
• increase handling sensitivity; or
• require additional transport protection.

Complex Natural Quartzite projects therefore need cutouts included in the cutting layout before the final fabrication scope is confirmed.

2. What Edge Work Is Included?

The word “edge” can represent very different levels of fabrication.

Ask whether the quotation includes:

• simple polished edges;
• eased edges;
• beveled edges;
• bullnose or other shaped profiles;
• 45-degree miter cutting;
• built-up edges;
• laminated edge assemblies;
• waterfall miters;
• finished returns; and
• polishing of exposed cut edges.

A quotation that says only “edge finishing included” may still leave important scope questions unanswered.

Mitered Edges Should Be Separated From Standard Edge Polishing

A 45-degree mitered edge or waterfall assembly is not the same fabrication scope as polishing a simple straight edge.

Miter work may require:

• precision 45-degree cutting;
• edge preparation;
• joint assembly;
• adhesive work;
• temporary clamping or support;
• joint finishing;
• pattern coordination; and
• additional QC.

If one quotation includes this work and another lists only straight-edge polishing, their fabrication costs should not be compared directly.

3. Is Reinforcement Included?

Reinforcement should not be treated as a generic automatic line item for every Quartzite piece.

Its need depends on the specific geometry, slab condition, openings, narrow sections, transport risk, fabrication method, and project requirements.

Areas that may deserve additional review include:

• narrow sink bridges;
• narrow cooktop bridges;
• long thin strips;
• large fabricated pieces with major openings;
• natural fissures crossing vulnerable zones; and
• components that require temporary transport support.

4. Is Export Packing Included?

For an international Natural Quartzite order, packing can be a meaningful project cost and should not be assumed.

A quotation should clarify whether packing is:

• included in the product price;
• shown as a separate line item;
• estimated provisionally; or
• excluded completely.

For fabricated HRST STONE project components, packing may involve project-specific protection such as:

• soft non-staining surface protection;
• foam or protective separators;
• edge guards;
• corner protection;
• internal blocking;
• secure fixing;
• additional support around vulnerable openings where appropriate; and
• reinforced fumigated wooden crates.

The required packing method depends on the actual product dimensions and geometry.

Packing Should Reflect the Finished Piece, Not Just the Material

A raw slab, a small vanity, a long countertop, and a waterfall island do not create the same transportation risks.

When reviewing packing cost, ask whether the supplier considered:

Multi-piece projects may need piece IDs linked to shop drawings, cutting layouts, QC records, packing lists, and installation references.

• dry-lay inspection;
• production photography; and
• final QC documentation.

These services may not appear as obvious physical products, but they can materially change the level of project coordination included in the quotation.

7. Separate Packing From Freight

Packing and freight are not the same cost.

A clearer quotation structure is:

If freight changes but material remains unchanged, the buyer can see the difference clearly instead of assuming the stone price increased.

8. Check the Incoterm Before Comparing the Total

An EXW, FOB, CFR, CIF, and DDP quotation can represent very different supplier responsibilities.

Do not compare them only by total value.

The buyer should identify the commercial checkpoint used for comparison and then add any missing costs required to bring each quotation to that same point.

For example, an FOB price may still require ocean freight and destination-side costs before it becomes comparable with a broader delivered quotation.

9. Look for “Subject to Final Drawing” Items

Some quotation lines may correctly remain provisional because the project information is incomplete.

Examples include:

• final sink openings;
• cooktop model;
• faucet-hole quantity;
• edge profile;
• waterfall geometry;
• special reinforcement;
• crate quantity;
• cargo volume; or
• final installation destination.

These items should not be silently treated as included at zero cost.

Mark them clearly as:

Included / Excluded / Allowance / Pending Information / Requote Required

10. Drawing Changes Can Change the Quotation

A quotation is only as current as the information on which it was based.

A revised drawing may add:

• another sink;
• a larger cooktop;
• a waterfall panel;
• additional backsplash;
• longer edges;
• a new miter;
• a different thickness concept; or
• more finished pieces.

The revised project may therefore require a revised quotation.
