How should surface gloss be specified for a Quartzite mock-up?

Identify the Natural Quartzite control sample, describe the intended visual finish, define the mock-up size and surface condition, and state whether acceptance is visual, instrument-based, or both. If numerical gloss readings are required, also define the measurement method, geometry, locations, number of readings, acceptance rule, and approval owner.

2. Is “honed finish” enough to specify Quartzite gloss?

Not always. Honed identifies a general finish direction, but two honed surfaces can still differ in sheen, reflected-light behavior, texture, color depth, and processing uniformity. For appearance-sensitive projects, connect the finish name to an approved physical reference and project-specific acceptance method.

3. What gloss unit should polished or honed Quartzite have?

There is no single universal gloss value that should automatically be applied to every polished or honed Natural Quartzite project. If a numerical requirement is needed, establish it using the project’s selected material, approved reference, measurement method, geometry, and acceptance criteria.

4. Why does measurement angle matter when checking Quartzite gloss?

Gloss readings depend on the measurement geometry used by the selected method or instrument. A numerical result should therefore remain connected to its measurement procedure. Results produced using different geometries should not be treated as directly interchangeable without appropriate technical justification.

5. Should a Quartzite mock-up use several gloss readings?

If numerical measurement is required, multiple predetermined locations may provide a more useful record than one convenient reading, particularly on a naturally variable surface. The project should define the measurement locations, number of readings, and evaluation rule before testing.

6. Should Quartzite edges use the same gloss requirement as the main face?

Do not assume they will look identical automatically. Edge geometry and processing can change reflected-light behavior. If finished edges are visually important, include them separately in the mock-up review and define the required relationship to the approved face finish.

7. Does an approved Quartzite mock-up automatically approve all production slabs?

No. The approval record should define which material, slab group, finish process, surfaces, pieces, or project area it covers. A meaningful change in material or processing may require another review.

{
  "@context":"https://schema.org",
  "@type":"FAQPage",
  "mainEntity":[
    {
      "@type":"Question",
      "name":"How should surface gloss be specified for a Quartzite mock-up?",
      "acceptedAnswer":{
        "@type":"Answer",
        "text":"Identify the Natural Quartzite control sample, describe the intended visual finish, define the mock-up size and surface condition, and state whether acceptance is visual, instrument-based, or both.
